Résumé : L'auteur, prenant le contre-pied du thème proposé par ce numéro des Cahiers, exprime sa préférence, pendant la séance, pour l'abstinence intellectuelle dans la relation analytique et dans l'écoute de l'analysant, afin que puisse advenir ce que Roustang appelle la ‚ pensée des sens é et que l'auteur se représente comme étant ‚ quelque chose en moi qui sait é.

Summary : Taking issue with the theme suggested for this issue of the Cahiers, the author expresses his preference for abstaining from intellectualizing the analytical relationship during the session, while listening to the analysand. By doing so, he opens the path to what Roustang calls the thought of the senses, which the author interprets as being something inside me which knows.

Résumé : Huit analystes jungiens américains, très sensiblement différents les uns des autres, répondent en moins d'une page à la question ‚ Qu'est-ce pour vous, personnellement, que penser en analyse ? é. Cette enquête est publiée simultanément à New York, dans le Journal of Jungian Theory and Practice et dans ces Cahiers. Elle est commentée, discutée et prolongée par l'article de Christian Gaillard intitulé ‚ Pour une pensée gauche é et publié dans ce même numéro.

Summary : Eight American Jungian analysts, from a broad range of individual orientations, were asked to write a brief reply to the question ñFor you personally, what is thought in analysis?î This survey is being published simultaneously in the Journal of Jungian Theory and Practice and in these Cahiers. Christian Gaillard's article entitled ñFor Awkwardness in Thought,î also published in this issue, provides commentary and discussion on the theme of this survey.

Christian Gaillard : Pour une pensée gauche

Résumé : Cet article se présente comme une réaction à l'enquête réalisée aux États-Unis sur le thème de ce Cahier. L'auteur montre que si le rapport à l'inconscient est bien sÚr dérangeant, et même humiliant pour le moi, il s'avère aussi fait de surprises étonnamment heureuses, de rencontres inattendues et pourtant insistantes jusqu'à ouvrir sur tout un monde de présences qu'on peut apprendre à fréquenter. Et il souligne que la pensée psychanalytique, dès lors, est amenée à renoncer aux conforts de l'orthodoxie pour se former et se transformer en conséquence.

Summary : This article is presented as a reaction to a survey carried out in the United States on the theme of this issue of the Cahiers. Although the relationship to the unconscious is inevitably disturbing and even humiliating for the ego, it may also prove to be a source of amazingly happy surprises and unexpected yet insistent encounters. This relationship is the gateway to a world of presences with whom one can learn to become familiar. The author emphasizes that psychoanalytical thought is thereby forced to give up the comfort of orthodoxy to evolve and transform itself.

Summary : A thought which is validated and recognized simultaneously fulfills a need to contain anxiety, to keep violence at bay, and to gain access to the diversity of interests.

Joanne Wieland-Burston : La chambre interdite

Résumé : Dans l'Allemagne d'aujourd'hui, un complexe collectif majeur a trait à l'époque nazie et aux actes inhumains qui ont été perpétrés alors. On s'attend tout naturellement à ce que le travail actuel des psychanalystes allemands contribue à faire accéder à la conscience ce complexe d'ordre culturel. Toutefois, le traitement analytique de ce complexe est tributaire de nombreux facteurs, dont le moindre n'est pas la personnalité même de l'analyste, avec l'histoire qui lui est propre et la conscience qu'il ou elle a d'en être aussi affecté(e). Cet article porte sur les différents problèmes qu'implique le traitement de ce complexe qui, en dépit des efforts admirables qu'a fourni un nombre encore restreint de cliniciens et d'auteurs, est resté longtemps un sujet tabou aussi bien dans les milieux de l'analyse que dans l'esprit du grand public.

Summary : In Germany today, a major collective complex has arisen, related to the Nazi era and the acts of cruelty perpetrated at that time in the recent past. It is reasonable to expect current German psychoanalytic research to contribute to an awareness of this complex, which seems to be cultural in origin. However, analytic treatment of the complex depends on several different factors, not least the personality of the analyst himself, who also has his own history and an awareness (or lack thereof) that he too has been affected. This article discusses the range of problems involved in the treatment of this complex. In spite of the courageous efforts of a small minority of practitioners and authors, the complex has remained a taboo subject, in analytic circles as well as in the mind of the general public.

Cyrille Bonamy : Histoire d’Ysou. Une éclipse du soi

Résumé : Un enfant muré par sa maladie congénitale gravement handicapante et huit années de maltraitance s'éveille grâce au travail du personnel d'une institution. L'auteur cherche le fil qu'a suivi l'enfant pour passer les arcanes des défenses du soi et celles de la construction du moi. L'un des éléments clef du processus a résidé dans la capacité du personnel à exercer initialement la fonction sensation qui permit le passage à la fonction pensée.

Summary : Imprisoned by a congenital, severely handicaping disease and eight years ill-treatment, a child wakes up owing to institution personnel care. The author searches the trend followed by the child to get through the self defences and the impediments of the ego construction. The case brings to light a key-data for setting the processus in motion : the personnel aptitude to put the sensation function at work and to allow the transition to the thinking function.

Roland Schols : Angoisses et modes de pensée

Résumé : Après avoir illustré la théorie de la fonction-alpha de Bion par l'exemple des contes des Milles et une Nuits, l'auteur constate que cette théorie est basée sur une compréhension parano¥de des angoisses précoces. D'autres théories s'articulent autour d'une compréhension schizo¥de des angoisses précoces. À partir de ces deux types d'angoisses se sont formés deux modes de pensée dont le dialogue de sourd entre Freud et Jung montre la nature inconciliable.

Summary : Following an illustration of the theory of the alpha function of Bion drawn from the tales of the Thousand and One Nights, the author observes that such a theory is based on a paranoid understanding of infantile anxieties. Other theories are structured around a schizoid account of these anxieties. These two types of understanding gave rise to two irreconcilable schools of thought, as demonstrated by the conflict between Freud and Jung.

Résumé : Cet article interroge le lien entre la capacité de penser et une identité sexuée autonome. L'expérience d'avoir été désiré par les parents en tant que fille ou en tant que gar­on est constitutive de la certitude ‚ je suis une fille é ou ‚ je suis un gar­on é. è travers une vignette clinique, je montre que, lorsque ceci a fait défaut, le développement du moi s'en ressent profondément, de même que la capacité de penser. C'est au travail de l'analyse de recréer un environnement susceptible de permettre l'expression du désir des patients, au-delà du faux-self dont ils s'étaient faits un bouclier, et de permettre ainsi la séparation d'avec le passé. Lorsque le déni de la réalité n'est plus nécessaire, la pensée peut se déployer.

Summary : These notes explore the link between having a mind of one's own and having one's own gender. In normal sexual development the conviction that ñI am a girlî or ñI am a boyî is rooted in the experience of being wanted by the parents - of being wanted as a girl or as a boy. Through a clinical vignette, I show how when this experience fails, it has profound consequences on the development of the ego and on the ability to think. It is then the work of analysis to establish an environment in which the patients can express their profound needs in order to enable them to shed the false self that has protected them and to separate from their past. When reality does not need to be denied, the capacity to think can develop.

Résumé : L'auteur s'appuie sur un cas clinique pour montrer comment l'inhibition de la pensée peut trouver son origine dans un besoin inconscient de réparation qui ne permet pas au sujet de s'ouvrir au nouveau, à l'inattendu, qui est en fait aussi ce qui lui est propre. Il élargit ensuite sa réflexion à la formation des analystes en montrant comment le rapport à la théorie peut relever de cette même problématique, selon que l'on reste pris dans le besoin d'orthodoxie ou que l'on accepte de reconnaÓtre les failles de la théorie qu'on voudrait parfaire comme celles des parents analystes. L'article se conclut sur une réflexion à propos de la portée que peut prendre aujourd'hui le terme de ‚ post-jungien é.

Summary : The author cites a clinical case-study to show how the inhibition of thought may arise from an unconscious need for compensation which prevents the subject from acceding to the new and unexpected, which is actually part of his own self-fulfillment. The author then discusses how analysts are trained, showing how the relationship to theory may also obey the same contradiction. In one case, one may remain trapped in a need for orthodoxy; in the opposing case, one may be willing to accept the flaws in the theory, in order to perfect both it and the failings of its analyst parents. The article ends with a consideration of what the term ñpost-Jungianî may cover today.

Hester McFarland Solomon : Le soi éthique

Résumé : L'auteur traite de la genèse de l'aptitude à penser et à se conduire de manière éthique à la fois sur le plan personnel et sur le plan professionnel. Elle centre sa réflexion sur le soi dont la maturation apparaÓt comme résultat d'une constante interaction entre l'inné (perspective archétypique) et l'acquis (perspective développementale). La reconnaissance de l'autre dans sa réalité et sa subjectivité implique le dépassement des attentes narcissiques. L'attitude éthique de l'analyste suppose de sa part l'exercice d'une responsabilité particulière dans la relation, sans attente de réciprocité ; ainsi l'autre pourra élaborer une position ou un état intérieur qu'il n'aurait pu atteindre seul.

Summary : The author discusses the genesis of the aptitude to think and to conduct oneself in an ethical manner in both personal and professional terms. She focuses her reflection on the self, postulating that its maturation appears to be the result of ongoing interaction between the innate (archetypal perspective) and the learned (developmental perspective). The recognition of the other, his reality and subjectivity, involves overcoming narcissistic expectations. The ethical attitude of an analyst assumes a commitment to a special responsibility in the relationship, without the expectation that it will be reciprocated. On this basis, the other can elaborate a position or inner state that he or she would not have been able to attain alone.
